Javelinas, also known as collared peccaries, are not a pig but share similar characteristics.
Javelinas have a scent gland on their rump that they use to mark their territory and identify each other. The scent is so strong that they have earned the nickname of "Skunk Pig."
Javelinas, also known as collared peccaries, are not predators, but they can be aggressive and dangerous to both humans and pets, especially dogs. While javelinas may not intentionally attack humans, they can become aggressive when feeling threatened, cornered, or protecting their young. (I have been charged by one and it's terrifying. Keep your distance!)
